Welcome to my Life in
Belleville!
Steven J. Rovell
PMP, CGCIO, MSM, BSME
I
have lived in Belleville all my life. My family has been here for almost 100 years.
Sadly, most of them have moved away or passed on. I have stayed in Belleville
to raise my family. I was hoping that my sons could have experienced the same
wonderful childhood I had experienced and to some extent they have done so.
Before attending Grammar School, I went to
Preschool classes at the "Rec House". Then I attended Number Eight School where
I played at Clearman Field almost every day. I loved Belleville High School and received a great education. My
Father, Mother, Aunts, and Uncles all graduated from Belleville High School. I
rowed Crew under Coach Sam Giuffrida. I was President of the Key Club as well as
a member of the National Honor Society, Band, Student Council and Executive
Council. It was a wonderful time in Belleville's History. There was a Spirit of
Pride throughout the Township. When I initially ran for office, one of my primary goals was to build that pride back into our community. I wanted to stabilize our tax base and make sure that our tax dollars were reinvested into rebuilding our community's infrastructure.
In my Senior year at Belleville High School ('72),
I received early acceptance into Rutgers University's School of Engineering in
New Brunswick. There I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical
Engineering. While working for Motorola, I also attended graduate school and
earned my Masters Degree in Management at Stevens Institute of Technology.
At my own expense, I continued my education receiving my
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from the Project Management
Institute (PMI.org) in 2006. In 2013, I finished a Certified Government Chief
Information Officer Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. If you would like to know more about
my qualifications, follow this link.
In 1986, I married Susan Antolini. Susan was also a graduate of Belleville High School as was her father Hugo and her Uncle Enzo. She has been an educational professional for over
30 years. She has been a teacher, reading coach, supervisor and administrator in the Belleville School System for over
20 years. Her Bachelor of Arts from Kean
University is in Elementary Education. Her Master of Arts degree is from
Montclair State in Reading. Her second Masters Degree is in Administration
Supervision from St Elizabeth's College. She has taught in Bloomfield Public
Schools, Belleville Public Schools and for the State of New Jersey
Department of Education. Her commitment to Life Long Learning has been an
inspiration to my sons and me.
Susan and I have two sons, James (BHS '06) and Steve
(BHS '09). They are one of the reasons I want to continue to see Belleville
restored to a place of honor.
Over the last fifteen years, the Council, our residents and our Township Employees
have continued to work together to build the "Pride"
back into Belleville. We must proactively pursue a better quality of life as well as serve the best interest of the community.
"The residents, as well as all of our children, have a right to live in a
Belleville for which they can be proud."
